This design uses starting/standing stitches to begin rows unless otherwise stated. If you are unfamiliar with how to begin a row with standing stitches, you can use the following: ch 1, sc in very first st; ch 2, skip very first st to be counted as a hdc; ch 3, skip very first st to be counted as a dc; If you would like to learn how to work these stitches, you can find a great tutorial here:

When working the checked section, you will have 3 skeins of yarn attached at the same time. Carry the strands of yarn not in use across the bottom of the row working over them so you can easily drop and pick up the next color without having to cut and weave in a lot of ends

When dropping a strand of yarn to be picked up in the next row, be sure to drop it to the wrong side of blanket and not the front

When changing colors, do so in the last step of the last stitch. For a the last dc of a color section, yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over with next color noted and pull through remaining 2 loops on hook
