Cheers!
Cheers! is a pair of fingerless mitts knitted in the round. To mix the colours for your own Cheers! mitts, pair a skein of variegated yarn with four matching solid shades, emphasising your favourite shades in the variegated yarn. Choosing your solid shades enables you to more deeply appreciate the work of the dyer, while also adding your own twist to their colourway.
This pattern includes:
- Three different colourways
- Printable colouring-in templates to aid you in recolouring the design
- Yarn Mixology Photo Tutorial showing how colouring-in was used to aid the design process for the samples shown in the eBook
- In-Depth interview with Becci of RiverKnits, whose yarns feature in the Mulled Wine colourway edition of the pattern
- Written and Charted Instructions
For Cheers! Mitts, stranded colourwork is combined with knit-and-purl stitches to create asymmetric textured triangles on a variegated background. This fabric creates an illusion of diagonal spirals representing the fluidity and colours of a drink. The mitts begin with a ribbed cuff worked with smaller needles for a snug fit, after which the hand portion is worked with larger needles to produce a bouncy, textured fabric. The thumb gusset stitches are placed on waste yarn while the hand is completed, then a ribbed cuff similar to that worked around the wrist cuff is worked on smaller needles to create the hand opening. After the hand stitches have been bound off, the thumb gusset stitches and three additional stitches from the hand are picked up with smaller needles to knit a ribbed thumb.
Cheers! is published with inspiring notes and printable worksheets to colour-in as an aid to deciding which yarn shades to use. The creative process behind the design is offered alongside the pattern instructions to enable and encourage you to adapt this design for mixing your own yarny cocktails, should you so wish. If you have never used variegated yarn for stranded colourwork, Cheers! offers a really inviting and accessible starting point.
