Chequamegon Headband Pattern
This is a very cute, very warm colorwork headband. Also a great project to use up yarn leftovers from other projects. Techniques include i-cord cast-on, stranded knitting, chart reading, i-cord bind-off, 3-needle bind-off.
Yarn for Colorwork Headband: Worsted weight yarn in 3 contrasting colors, ~ 50 yards of each of C1, C2, and C3. Yarn Suggestions: Peace Fleece Worsted, Lamb’s Pride Worsted, Nature Spun Worsted, Rowan Pure Wool.
Yarn for Lining: < 100 yards Light worsted or DK weight extra soft yarn. Yarn Suggestions: Juniper Moon Farms Harriet, Mirasol Miski Alpaca, Cascade Eco Alpaca.
Needles: 16” circular, size 5/6 and size 3/4 (Choose appropriate needle sizes based on the size you wish to knit, or based on your gauge.)
Accessories: One stitch marker, a spare 16” circular needle, size 3 or less, and a darning needle to weave ends.
Sizing: Different sizes can be achieved by using different needle sizes and yarn weights. Some recommendations are in the table below. The 21” headband size fits a 22-23” head. For heads smaller than 22”, the smaller size is recommended. Everyone’s gauge with a given yarn/needle tends to be different, so if you are concerned about achieving an exact size, make sure to make a gauge swatch first.
Different sizes are available based on gauge. Women’s Small is 18.75”. Womens Medium/Large is 21”.

Front - (sugg. size 5 needles) - 11 sts/2 inches; 13 rows/2 inches
Lining - (sugg. size 3 needles) 12 sts/2 inches; 17 rows/2 inches
Size Medium/Large:
Front - (sugg. size 6 needles) - 10.5 sts/2 inches; 13 rows/2inches
Lining - (sugg. size 4 needles) - 11 sts/2 inches; 16 rows/2 inches
