Cherries and Fairies
Cherries and Fairies is a lightly curved triangular shawl. A simple cat’s paw pattern gives way to a nupp border and is finished with a crochet chain edging. The shawl’s size can be easily adjusted by knitting more/fewer repeats of the first chart.
The pattern assumes that you know how to read charts, knit nupps, and cast on provisionally.
Thank you to my test knitter Karen (puffycats)!!!
The shawl’s name comes from Robert Graves’ poem Cherry-Time:
When I sound the fairy call,
Gather here in silent meeting,
Chin to knee on the orchard wall,
Cooled with dew and cherries eating.
Merry, merry,
Take a cherry;
Mine are sounder,
Mine are rounder,
Mine are sweeter.
For the eater
When the dews fall.
And you’ll be fairies all.
Cherries and Fairies is part of my series The Cloths of Heaven, inspired by some of my favourite poems.
