Cherries on Top Crop
The Cherries on Top Crop is a completely made-to-measure pattern with endless customization options! Make it in fingering weight for an airy summer crop, or choose DK and make a layering piece. The pattern comes with guidance for how to measure your body, walks you through any math that may need to be done (all very simple, don’t worry!), and provides multiple options for shape, fit, and construction. With this basic pattern, you can create dozens of different tops, and it works up in a flash, which is just the icing on the cake! Or should I say…..the cherry on top!
Materials
Fingering weight yarn or any yarn that creates a fabric you like Yardage will vary depending on gauge and size made
US 7 /4.5 mm crochet hook (or hook size that creates a fabric you like)
Several removable stitch markers
Darning needle
Buttons (optional)
1/8” / 3.1 mm elastic (optional)
Tester yardage and modifications can be viewed here: Cherries on Top Crop Tester Yardage
Gauge
Sample was made with a gauge of 19 stitches and 15 rows = 4” / 10 cm in hdc, blocked on US 7 /4.5 mm hook
Sample was made with a gauge of 5 clusters and 5 cluster rows = 4” / 10 cm in Rows 1-4 of Back Panel, blocked on US 7 /4.5 mm hook
This gauge is only a suggestion and you can use whatever hook size and yarn weight you like to create your ideal fabric. This piece is entirely made to measure, so you have total control! However, this means that a gauge swatch will be very important.
TIP: Gauge swatches should be at least 5” / 12.5 cm square to get an accurate measurement of your gauge.
Sizing
Meant to be worn with 0-2” / 0- 5 cm of positive ease at the fullest part of the bust
This pattern is made to measure, so you can make absolutely any size you like!
TIP: Negative ease would also work! Just remember that negative ease will cause the back panel to stretch where it is attached to the side panels, creating a different look. If you like it, go for it!
