Cherry Blossom
This is a beautiful blanket that I designed for my best friend- who is finally having a baby girl after seven years of trying! I picked up some yarn in some nice girly colors and made this pattern up as I went along. The finished size is approximately 42” square. Teddy bear included for scale.
Most of the blanket is basic knits and purls- there are several garter stitch sections and moss stitch sections that are great to work on while watching shows. There are some small cable stitches in the very center to make the blossom, and you will need to make LOTS of bobbles, which takes some time. But I love the little pops of color! There is also a small mosaic section- but before you panic, only one color is carried throughout this section- the stitches not being worked in the new color are simply slipped. Overall, this is a great project if you like simple variation in your knitting projects!
I used size 3 DPNs and my interchangeable circular needles to make this blanket. Having the interchangeable needle set was super helpful, as I could gradually connect longer and longer combinations of cables as the blanket grew larger. I started with the 8” cable and ended up with a 50” cable combination. If you don’t have an interchangeable set, you will need to have several different sets of circular needles, starting with a fairly small diameter and ending with at least a 40”- although I think the stitches will be tight!
I chose to line the blanket with a piece of flannel and my sewing machine. Instructions for lining the blanket are not included, as this is not my specialty. Frankly, I am shocked that running a knit blanket through a sewing machine worked as well as it did, but the shower was only a few hours away and I was desperate. :stuck_out_tongue:
