A pattern for some lovely cherry blossom inspired sock. I’m a huge fan of all things Japanese and these were a special treat to myself as I couldn’t visit (as planned) this year.

Note: This is a recipe and not a full sock design. Please check out my sock knitting pattern for beginners because it’s the exact same sock just with a different pattern for the shaft.

Difficulty: Experienced+
These socks heavily rely on knitting intarsia in the round. There are tons of videos on my blog that will help you with this technique (and the way I knit socks in general), though. The branches are embroidered to the socks, while the petals are finished with a crochet hook.

Included in the pattern:

  • PDF with 8 pages
  • schematic instructions for the sock
  • chart for the intarsia section
  • I also included a variation of the chart for those who want to use Fair Isle/stranded knitting instead.

Yarn and yardage:
Please be aware that you will need to work with quite a lot of bobbins and that always leads to a little bit of waste. So, don’t underestimate the yardage. You will need around 25 grams of fingering weight yarn for the blossoms/cuff and some scraps for the bobbles.

Skills required:
Intarsia in the round, knit, purl, SSK, k2tog, p2tog, kitchener stitch, bobble stitch (crochet hook), chain stitch (embroidery).
Step-by-step video tutorials are available for almost all techniques.

Additional materials:
You will need a crochet hook
