Cherry Blossoms on the Water
Materials
Sandnes Garn Lanett (100% merino, 213 yards (195 meters) / 50 g) or any other similar fingering weight yarn
Total amount of yarn needed 400 yards.
110 beads (optional)
Needle size
4,0 mm (US 6) needles for the edge (sections C and D) and 4,5 mm (US 7) needles for
the body of the shawl (sections A, B1 and B2), or any needle size which gives you the
desired fabric.
Beads
My lovely test knitters had a great idea about beading the shawl. There’s one version added in the pattern. There are alternative versions for the beading here, here, and here.
Gauge
15 sts / 10cm in water pattern on size 4,5 mm needles with fingering weight yarn
Exact gauge is not important but do note that a looser gauge needs more yarn.
Finished Size
160 cm across by 70 cm down
Structure
This shawl is triangular. The shawl knitted from the center of the neck and outwards. It is formed by one increase on each edge and one increase on each side of the center
spine, made on every right side. Therefore there are 4 stitch increases on each right side row. There is a garter stitch border formed by always knitting the first three and
the last three stitches. All the wrong side rows are worked k3, p to 3 sts from end, k3.
Modularity
Section A is always knitted once. You can make as many repeats as you wish in other sections or skip one section and move to the next one. In the original shawl sections B,
C and D are knitted twice.
Uploaded a fixed version:
21th of October: Section C, written instructions, row 19 fixed.
