Pops of red, that’s what makes this piece the Cherry Bomb Shawl. You can choose your own standout color and make your own “Pop” Shawl…Lime Bomb, Tangerine Bomb, Chocolate Bomb for instance. This is a striped asymmetrical accessory knit on the bias sideways in garter stitch with the exception of a small stockinette section at the border. Although it is knit using the German Short Row technique, you do not have to have any previous experience knitting in this style since full written instructions, video help links, and row counts are included within the pattern. The border features a Latvian Braid set on stockinette. It is knit using 2 colors in worsted weight yarn, but this pattern would also work using DK or sport weight yarn. Using only 2 colors eliminates all the ends to bury that working with multiple colors in German Short Rows usually requires. The yarn you aren’t working with is twisted up the side without a need for constant breaking and adding of new yarn. Simply choose 2 coordinating and/or contrasting colors (one lighter and one to “pop”) and cast on. Both colors used just shy of 400 yards for around 750 to 800 yards total. I used Madelinetosh Vintage Merino Wool in Robin Red Breast and also in Astrid Grey. My blocked shawl is 6 foot 2 inches on the longest side, and in 25 inches in depth at its deepest point.
