You need a cardboard roll as it’s used for mailing documents or posters and cut it to obtain the size. Let it be a bit longer than the lenght of Your spindle. Do not remove the bottom of the tube. Also a Potato-Chips-Box is useful.
This pattern is written for a tube which is 3.25“ wide and 12“ long, but you can change it well to the required size…
