This cowl is knit in the round on circular needles and the checkered Chess Pie stitch pattern is created by a repetition of knit and purl stitches. It is a perfect layering piece for winter and spring alike and a great unisex accessory. Instructions for both a bulky weight version and a worsted weight version of this cowl are included in this pattern and it is very beginner friendly.

What you will need:
186 yd (170 m) in any worsted (category 4) weight yarn (like Lion Brand Wool Ease Worsted) OR
142 yd (130 m) in any bulky (category 5) weight yarn (like We Are Knitters The Petite Wool)
Size 7 US (4.5 mm) circular knitting needles with a 24” cable OR
Size 10.5 US (6.5 mm) circular knitting needles with a 24” cable
1 stitch marker
Tapestry yarn needle
Scissors

Skill level: Beginner

Skills needed: Casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, knitting in the round.
