Chetney's Hat
This gorgeously complex earflap hat will keep your head toasty warm even in the coldest of winters. The knitted inner lining gives the hat bulk, without sacrificing the details of the intricate colourwork pattern on the outer hat. The pointy crown of the outer hat makes for a pixie-hat look, while the lining fits the hat snugly to your head. Cords with tassels allow the earflaps to be secured over the ears, and a border around the edges elegantly hides messy joins between the lining and outer hat.
The earflaps are probably the most complicated part of this hat. Two separate methods are provided to make knitting them as easy as possible.
This hat was inspired by Critical Role’s Chetney Pock O’Pea, and is as accurate a representation as possible of the original character art by Hannah Friederichs.
The pattern for this hat took around 140 hours to make. Nevertheless, I’ve learned so much from free patterns over the years that I want to make this one free as well. If you enjoyed this pattern or learned from it, perhaps consider leaving a small optional donation at ko-fi.com/knittingcritter.
If this pattern proves unsuitable, also check out the ‘Chetney’s Earflap Hat’ pattern by Pamela Wynne on Ravelry.
