How I love handpainted yarns! The glorious colors--shaded tonals, variations on a complimentary color scheme, wild jumbles of clashing hues—I find them all irresistible. But it is difficult to find patterns with stitch patterns which accommodate variegated yarns.

There are three knitting elements which enhance highly variegated yarns: garter stitch, chevron stitch, and mitered shapes. Chevromitrous uses these three elements to create a versatile shawl/shoulder accessory of exuberant colors. This pattern revels in multicolored handpainted yarns; it is suitable for even the most variegated combination of colors.

Chevromitrous begins with a center panel strip of three mitered rectangles. Garter and eyelet triangles are knitted to the center panel as “wings”. A seed stitch top band stabilizes the garter rows. Chevromitrous finishes with a generous border of chevron patterning which surrounds the center panel and wings. Since the design contains changes from motifs to side to side knitting to a traditional crescent border, the pattern is consistently interesting to knit. And gorgeous to wear!

Due to the construction elements, the first two sections of instructions are written only; the chevron border is charted only.

Version 2
In response to requests for additional sizing and yardage, I added a second version which uses 370 yd to unlimited yardage. The 370 yd version is 54” wingspan and 18” in length. I also designed a new chevron edging to coordinate with the revised sizing.
Both versions are included in the pattern.
