Chevron Frenzy
Skill Level: Advanced beginner – experience working stranded colorwork a definite plus
A celebration of chevrons awaits you in this cozy cowl. Work stranded colorwork, textural stitches, and stripes with three (or more!) colors of your favorite soft DK yarn.
Construction details: Cowl is worked in the round from the bottom to the top. The pattern is written in chart form as well as written out.
Finished Measurements: approximately 24.75” circumference x 14” depth
Techniques required:
- Cast on/Bind off
- Joining in the round
- Knit/Purl
- Changing needle sizes
- Stranded colorwork (fair isle)
- Making bobbles
- Weaving in ends
Yarn:
3 colors (A, B, and C) of DK weight (CYCA #3) yarn, 150 yards each color.
I recommend that you use solid or semi-solid colors. To ensure contrast for the stranded colorwork or striped sections either use highly contrasted colors (yellow, blue, pink) or try to vary the value of the colors you use (one dark, one medium, one light)
Specific yarn suggestions:
Yarn Snob Keith’s Cashmere
Rowan Yarns Pure Wool DK
Berroco Yarns Vintage DK
Malabrigo Rios or Silky Merino
Madelinetosh Tosh DK
Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend
Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash
Woolfolk Tov DK
Needles:
US 6 (4 mm) 24” circular needle or size needed for gauge and US 5 (3.75 mm) 24” circular needle or one size smaller than size needed for gauge.
Gauge: 22 stitches and 26 rounds = 4” in circular stockinette on smaller needle and stranded knitting on larger needle.
Additional materials: stitch markers, tapestry needle.
