Chevronic Hero Hat
I love a pattern that strikes a balance between being relaxing to make while still having some visual interest, and this hat was born from those goals. The brim is knit sideways and then seamed. Stitches are then picked up from one edge and then knit in plain stockinette stitch. The chevron pattern shows off variegated yarn to great effect, but would also look lovely in a solid hue.
I’ve offered three sizes for this pattern and strongly recommend you pick a size 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) smaller than the actual head circumference of the intended wearer for best fit.
Skills needed for this knit: Increasing and Decreasing, Seaming (mattress stitch), Knitting in the round, Picking up stitches from an edge
Sizes – Hat Circumference: 18”/20”/22” (46cm/51cm/56cm)
Yardage (Meters): 140 yds/160 yds/180 yds (130 m/150 m/165 m)
Needles: Size US4 (3.5mm) 16” (40cm) circular needles and size US4 (3.5mm) double pointed needles OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
The yarn used for the sample, Universal Yarns Bamboo Pop, is labeled as a DK weight yarn, but I found it to be much closer to a sport weight.
