Chicken and Waffles Cowl
This fun, quick cowl is similar to the Gap’s popular two-toned waffle cowlneck. My version gets its name from a waffle like stitch on one side and the “bird foot” like pattern on the reverse side. Worked up in a bulky weight and a worsted weight yarn in complimentary colors, the cowl drapes softly with a snuggly, squishy texture. The cowl is worked in the round using a circular needle. Even though it looks like it is created by using a stranded technique, only one yarn is worked in each round.
This pattern uses terms and abbreviations as established by Nancy Marchant at www.briochestitch.com and in her fantastic book, Knitting Brioche.
Materials:
Approximately 120 yds (110m) bulky weight yarn (MC)(sample worked in Patons Classic Wool Roving in color Dark Grey)
Approximately 150 yds (137m) worsted weight yarn in second color (CC) (sample worked in Patons Classic Woo lin color Lemongrass)
1 set US size 8 (5 mm) circular needles, 16 or 24” (40 or 60 cm) long note- a longer needle can be used with magic loop technique or size to achieve desired gauge and fabric characteristics
