Jazz up your autumn home decor with this Chicken Feed Candy Corn Doily Pattern!

This easy intermediate crochet pattern makes a finished doily that’s 17.5” in diameter. It requires three colors of size 10 lace weight cotton thread: approximately less than 50 yards of a white, approximately 75 yards of an orange, and approximately 100 yards of a yellow. You’ll also need a US-B 1 / 2.25mm crochet hook, tapestry needle, and scissors.

I consider it an easy intermediate pattern even though it’s done with just double crochets and chain spaces because:

  • The pattern written out is long. No two rounds are exactly the same.
  • However, each successive round builds on the previous round. You will make increases on either side of each “candy corn” every round. And the spaces between each “candy corn” increase fairly steadily throughout, from ch-2 spaces to ch-3 spaces to ch-4 spaces. Once you get to a ch-4 space, the next step becomes adding a double crochet and you go back to ch-2 spaces in between.
  • Some crocheters may find the natural growth of the piece intuitive. Still, the instructions for every round are written out with stitch counts given for continued clarity and guidance as you work up your doily.
