I was looking through my mom’s Trader magazine and saw a chicken hat (among other glorious things). I thought, why not make this? So I did.

This hat requires a LOT of assembly.

Materials required:

Polyester fiberfill/stuffing of your choice
E crochet hook (3.5mm)
1.5 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver white
Less than .5 skein of Red Heart Super Saver orange
Scraps of red for the comb and wattle
15mm safety eyes (or scraps of black for eyes, although my instructions do not include making these)
Yarn needle
Pencil or stick to push stuffing into “feather” parts of tail

What you will need to know:

MR – magic ring (can alternatively use ch 2, place x number of stitches in 2nd ch from the hook. I prefer MR, as you can pull it tightly closed)
Ch – chain
Sl st – slip stitch
Sc – single crochet
Hdc – half double crochet
Dc – double crochet
Tc – triple/treble crochet
Sc2tog – single crochet 2 together (decrease stitch)
TO – tie off
Rd - round
