Child's Backpack With Lining
This is a pattern to make a crochet backpack for a child. There is also a tutorial to show you how to line the backpack and front pocket.
This pattern is suitable for confident beginners or intermediate crocheters.
It also requires some knowledge of sewing.
There are three versions of the pattern and you will be able to download them all as required:
- A full written pattern with pictorial instructions alongside pattern.
- A full written pattern with pictorial instructions at the end of the pattern (so that you can choose to print out the written part only and view the pictures on your pc, mobile or tablet).
- A full written text only pattern which is print friendly.
My backpacks have been made in dk (double knit) yarn, using a 4.5 mm hook.
They measure approximately 9.75 inches (24.5 cms) in length by 7.5 inches (19 cms) width (measured flat).
But any yarn and matching hook size will do. It will just give you a different-size backpack :)
A larger backpack will however need a little more material for the lining than stated in materials required.
Materials required:
For Crochet:
Yarn of your choice in two different colours.
Crochet hook in a size to suit yarn used.
Darning needle for working in yarn ends.
Sewing needle to sew on pocket & shoulder straps.
Sewing thread.
Scissors.
Toggle or large button for closure.
Extra needed for lining:
Fabric of your choice (I used cotton, but poly-cotton, or any other light material would do). A fat quarter should be plenty.
Sewing yarn/cotton to match edging yarn.
I made the lining with use of a sewing machine, but it can also be hand-sewn.
…………………………
I have made several of these children’s backpacks and the pattern has been tested and re-tested also.
I hope I have provided enough help for you, but if you do have problems understanding the instructions, please let me know and I will try all I can to help.
