TERMS USED IN FILET-CROCHET
Space. Spaces are the open squares on the chart. They
are made by working chain 2, miss 2, treble in next stitch,

Blocks. These form the solid or close parts of the
work. They are made of three trebles. Where one block
stands alone there will be 4 trebles in the group, of which
the first belongs to the previous space; where two blocks
stand alone there will be 7 trebles in the group, 3 each for
the two blocks and 1 for the previous space: while three
blocks will contain 10 trebles, that is, 9 for the blocks and
1 for the space. It will be seen that any group or blocks
will have three times as many trebles as there are blocks,
with one additional for the space. When working trebles
into trebles always take up two threads. The abbreviation is bl.
