Sizes

  • Small (20”/51 cm., size 1)
  • Medium (24”/61 cm., size 2-4)
  • Large (27”/69 cm., size 8).

Finished measurements

  • 24(26,31)”/61(66,79) cm.
  • The size is entirely dependent on your knitting gauge

Yarn

  • 2 to 14 colors
  • For Small or Medium sizes, use sport weight or similar thickness – look on ball labels for yarns that suggest you use about size 5 (5.75 mm) needles.
  • For the Large size, use worsted weight yarn – look for yarns that suggest you use about size 7 (4.5 mm) or size 8 (5 mm) needles.
  • The yarns do NOT need to be the same brands and types, but should all be washable in the same way.

Needles and Notions

  • long circular needle (30”/75 cm. or more)
  • set of five double point needles, all of the same size.
  • For small or medium size – Size 6 (4.25 mm) needles
  • For large size – Size 8 (5 mm) needles
  • round stitch markers (rings or small yarn loops)
  • two flexible stitch holders long enough to each hold 74 sts (lengths of yarn work well)
  • two smaller (than the other two listed above) stitch holders
  • small safety pins
  • five .75” to .875” (3/4 to 7/5) inch / (1.9 to 2.2 cm) buttons

Gauge Varies with the size you choose to make

  • For small or medium size (sport weight yarn): about 20 sts and 20 garter ridges per 4 inches, after laundering or resting.
  • For large size (worsted weight yarn): about 18 sts and 18 garter ridges per 4 inches, after laundering or resting.
