I made this hat in just a few hours. It is fun and warm and my daughter loves it. The dreads on the top are not my idea. I saw an episode of Knitty Gritty on the DIY Network a few years ago. There was a gentleman on the show that demonstrated the dreads in a hat pattern they featured on that episode. I searched the net and DIY’s knitting pattern archive and I couldn’t find the pattern or technique, so I made my own from what I could remember. I believe the dread technique is the same as on that DIY episode.

Yardage depends on how many colors and length of the dreads. This one used a little more than half a skein of purple and less than half a skein of pink.
