Chili Weather Shawlette
This triangle shawlette was cast off as I was cooking the first pot of chili of this season. The weather was chilly, I was making chili, and the colorways used are named Chili and Tomato. Kismet! I used Manos del Uruguay yarns Marla and Sami, one skein each. You could easily substitute a different busy, wild dk yarn you have stashed away with a coordinating dk solid if you are looking to stash dive. Happy stitching!
Pattern will be Free for the thru Tuesday November 19th central time, then 50% off for the remainder of November. No code required!
Materials:
- 1 Skein Manos del Uruguay Marla (color K100 Chili shown), 100% superwash merino dk weight 273yds/100g
- 1 Skein Manos del Uruguay Sami (color Y2154 Tomato shown) 100% superwash merino dk weight 273yds/100g
- US 6 circular needles in 36-40” length (around this length to accommodate stitches)
- 2 stitch markers
- scissors and tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Measurements:
Soaked and blocked to 21” top center to center point, 49” wingspan. I did not block too aggressively, but I did soak my finished shawlette and pin it out to dry. The fabric is springy and stretchy due to the twist and nature of the yarn used. Pre blocking measurements: 20” top center to bottom center point, 41” wingspan, so it gained 8” of width.
Notes:
- If you are substituting yarn, I had 6g Marla and 9g Sami remaining. The pattern is worked in sections based on stitch pattern, so you could easily customize the size to be larger if you wish, you would simply need more yardage.
- This pattern begins with a 9-stitch garter tab cast on. Directions are written out, but if you need a visual there is a multitude of video tutorials on YouTube.
- This pattern uses an I-cord bind off. I-cord bind off takes a lot more yarn than your average bind off, estimates range between 13 and 15 times the width of your project. It is also quite a bit more time consuming. There are also many video tutorials out there on YouTube if you need a visual reminder or are new to the I-cord bind off. I recommend practicing with some scrap yarn on a swatch if you are new to it to get the rhythm down.
