Chinese Box Top is made for charm and comfort with a dash of stylised Chinese characters. This top was made using the Clean Mosaic Crochet method, featuring a loose, comfortable shaping.

This top is ideal for the cooler climes of autumn and spring by using, as I have, cool yarns like cotton, viscose, bamboo. It can also be made in other yarns to make a warm and toasty winter top. I have made this particular one using a beautifully luxuriant and soft yarn comprising of 50% bamboo & 50% viscose.

The Chinese Box Top features stylized Chinese characters. While I cannot read all the characters (and some might have been stylized out of their original meaning!), I did make the Mosaic Crochet hem with a stylised “double happiness” character. Who could possibly say no to a dose of double happiness!

The extra advantage of using Clean Mosaic Crochet (CMC) here is that there are no cut yarn tails you have to deal with later. It is ideal mosaic crochet technique for making garments.

This is not a tutorial.

However I do provide links tutorials on CMC as well as various techniques and methods I used (should you want to use those techniques/methods).

✿ SIZING ✿
Because of the easy and loose fit of the Chinese Boxy Top, you don’t need to worry overly about exact and precise sizing. However it is not a one size fits all.

While it is a loose, casual fit, I recommended this for Australian Sz 8-12.

This is a GRAPH with stitch-count notation (to save you from squinting and counting squares squares squares!!!). The pattern is designed to be worked in CMC but you are not limited to that method alone.

Intermediate to Advanced or anyone familiar with Mosaic Crochet; specifically CMC.
Need to be comfortable working off charted patterns: no repeating patterns so no written text; almost exclusively graph-based.

✿ CROCHET TERMINOLOGY ✿
The manuals are written in English.
I use US crochet terms and universal crochet symbols.

✿ MATERIALS & SPECIFICATIONS ✿
Crochet Terminology (when used): US & pictorial crochet symbols

Yarn: ICE YARN. 50% Bamboo, 50% Viscose

(or any Fine {aka Sport-weight / Baby / 4ply} yarn)

Number of Colours: 2 or more
Hook size: 2.2mm (body); 2mm (bands)

Crochet Stitch used: CMC (Clean Mosaic Crochet)

Alternative Method: other mosaic crochet methods can be used but will most likely result in different sizes. And with overlay mosaic crochet, if you have to cut yarns at the end of every row, then you will have to find a way to deal with those cuts ends (fringes, borders, etc. )
