ChineseCap
The author describes the Chinese Cap as follows “Based on a Mongolian Design, this hat looks good on little girls and boys alike.” She recommends you “knit it up in bright colours for the best effect”.
The different sizes are produced by changing the size of needles (not always a good way, as the quality of the fabric changes subtley!).
Yarn quantities as follows:
1 oz of 2ply Shetland wool for the main colour.
Scraps of 4 other contrast colours for the pattern.
Set of double pointed needles or a circular in 3mm for the smallest size, 3.5mm for the second size OR 3.75mm for the largest size.
Smallest size is 43cm head circumference, second size is 46cm and largest size measures 48cm around.
The top part of the hat is knit in the round, bottom up and requires skills in stranding and intarsia. The two earflaps are knit flat, separately and sewn on. to complete.
