Chocolate Ombre Cotton Tote Crochet Pattern

Difficulty: Easy

Finished Measurement: 12” Wide x 11” Height (inc. handle)

Gauge: 15sc and 20 rows/4”, 9mbs (mini bean stitches) and 11 rows/4”

Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in Chocolate Ombre, 12 oz / 340g, 524 meters, 574 yards

For this tote, you will need a little less than 200g of yarn or four 50g balls.

Hook: G6 / 4mm

Stitch Abbreviations:

CH - chain
SK - skip
FSC - foundation single crochet
ST/STS - stitch/stitches
SL ST - slip stitch
SC - single crochet
HDC - half double crochet
MBS - mini bean stitch
SC2TOG - single crochet two together
Special Stitches:

MBS (Mini Bean Stitch)

Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull through (2 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in the same stitch, pull through (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops, chain 1 to close bean stitch. Chain 1 counts as a stitch in this pattern. You will be working the MBS in these chain 1 spaces.

SC2TOG (Single Crochet 2 Together)

Insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull through, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.

Pattern Instructions

50 fsc

Round 1. 1 hdc in first fsc (place marker), hdc in next 49 fsc’s. Rotate piece so that you’re working in the bottom chains of the foundation single crochet, hdc in next 50 fsc’s. Do not join. (100 sts)

Round 2. MBS in next stitch (the one with the marker in it). Remove marker and place marker in this first MBS stitch just made, sk next stitch, MBS in next stitch, sk next st around. (100 sts or 50 mini beans).

Round 3. Sl st to first MBS of previous round, ch 1, MBS in next st (place marker), sk next st, MBS in next st, sk next stitch around. Remove stitch marker and place in last MBS of round. Do not join. (100 sts or 50 mini beans)

Round 4. Sk next st. MBS in next st, sk next st around. Remove stitch marker and place in last MBS of round. Do not join. (100 sts or 50 mini beans)

Round 5. Sk next st (the one with the marker in it), MBS in next st, sk next st around. Do not join. Do not break yarn. Repeat last round 26 more times or until piece measures 9”.

Handles

Round 1. sc in each st around (place marker in first sc and 50th sc). Sl st to last sc before marker.

Round 2. sc in marked st (move marker up to this st), sc in next 14 sc’s, place marker, ch 20, sk next 20 sc’s, place marker, sc in next 30 sts, place marker, ch 20, sk next 20 sc’s, place marker, sc in next 14 sts, sl st to first sc (the one with the marker in it).

Round 3. sc in first st (place marker to mark beginning of round), sc in next 12 sts, sc2tog (first sc here is the stitch right before the first ch of that ch 20 of the previous round - the beginning of the handle, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog (last ch of chain 20 handle and the next st), sc in next 28 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog, sl st to first sc.

Rounds 4-8. sc in each st around.

Weave in ends with a tapestry needle and you’re done.
