Choose Colour! Mitts
“Small things, by nature are whimsical … They’re just things for the pleasure of smallness.” This American Life Podcast Ep. 687 ‘Small Things Considered’
Are you obsessed with mini-skeins and leftover scraps of yarn? What about those beautiful wild-variegated single skeins? Whichever it is, I’m the same! I often find myself thinking about these types of yarn and ways to use them up.
There’s always a moment when knitting with small scraps or variegated yarn when you stop to take delight in the way the colours whimsically work together.
Knitting with these yarns is playful. You find colours accidentally placed together in combinations that you wouldn’t usually use, and somehow it works.
So, let’s choose some colourful yarns together and get knitting a whimsical pair of Choose Colour! Mitts.
The Choose Colour! Mitts is a super versatile pattern with 32 possible variations: four sizes (teen, small adult, medium adult, large adult) and four ways of organising your yarn (scrappy, half ‘n’ half, one colour and “other”).
Pattern has been professionally tech edited and includes links to video tutorials for joining in new colours with minimal finishing.
CONSTRUCTION
The Choose Colour! Mitts are knitted in the round, from the wrist upwards. Increases are made for the thumb, with the stitches being placed on hold and worked when the hand is complete.
The back of hand patterning and thumb gusset are separated by stitch markers placed after working the cuff.
