Every day of december has it’s bauble, perfect for an advent calendar for a loved one or perfect as your November/December knitting project. It’s also enough baubles to fill your christmas tree.

I have tried as much as possible to decorate every bauble with december and christmas symbols, also when possible fitting the symbol or meaning to a certain day, because throughout December there are many special days.

I got the idea and started drawing the pattern for these baubles january of 2014, Just after christmas. Thought I would have enough time throughout the rest of the year to get the baubles made.
Things turned out differently, I was very sick 2nd half of 2014 and unable to knit baubles. so the launch became december and christmas 2015. That of course meant that I had to alter the pattern, which I must tell you was an improvement.

You need some knitting skills to knit “julekugler” / christmas baubles.

•you need to be familiar with knitting on 5 sock needles in the round, alternatively you could •also knit a bauble in stockinette back and forwards and sew your bauble together, but I think the seam you will get is not the most pretty.

•you need to be able to read and knit according to a diagram
•you will need to be familiar with intarsia knitting or “fair-isle” knitting. knitting in multiple colours yarn.
•you need to know how to embroider on a stitch pattern (this is a technique I use in some cases when a colour is used to little to justify knitting and weaving it in full circle)

•you need to know simple in-crease and decrease techniques
•you need to know the simplest crochet stitch to make the hanging loop.

I have decided to classify the difficulty level of the baubles using stars :

  • the easiest, using 2 colours mid difficulty using 3 coloursdifficult, using multiple colours and embroidering techniquevery difficult, using multiple colours and embroidering technique. There is only one bauble of this level.

Have fun knitting
