I did this pattern in Christmas colors, but could be made for an holiday or party using different colors. You can use any worsted weight yarn. I used scrap yarn from my stash. It is a good way to use up stash yarn. Hook size is not too important, can use the next size up or down. Can adjust lengths to create bigger bows very easily.
