“Christmas Gift” Cowl
For Christmas 2016, my wonderful mother and fellow crafter gifted me with two skeins of luxurious chunky baby alpaca yarn in deep red. I fell in love instantly, but I didn’t have any chunky yarn patterns to do it justice. However, I’d always wanted a cowl I could wrap around my neck and pull over my head and bury my frozen nose into on nippy New England winter days. The natural warmth of the alpaca inspired me to create something that would suit. (Disclaimer: I had to dash back to the store to get more yarn.)

This cowl uses Moss Stitch to avoid the dreaded stockinette curl, and to make it almost reversible. Cables add a certain level of sturdiness and “pop.” The weight and drape of the baby alpaca is exquisite and makes for a cozy addition to anyone’s winter wardrobe.
