Inside the Designer’s Mind
When it comes to Christmas, I always think of fair isle knitwear with its rich and joyful colours. I love their warmth and snugly texture and I dream of myself sitting by the Christmas tree with the glow of its glistening lights, relaxing and sipping a glass of warm mulled wine in front of an open crackling fire, which inspired me to design this Christmas hat and cowl.

Materials (For the set)

• Approximately 212g/532m(581 yds) of DK weight wool yarn
• Donegal Tweed Wool (80% lambswool Wool 20% Nylon; 50g/125m/137 yds)

Needles

• Christmas Hat: US 4/3.5mm; US 6/4.0mm; US 8/5.0mm needles (40cm/16” circular needle or DPN as you prefer) for working in the round

• Christmas Cowl: US 4/3.5mm; US 6/4.0mm; US 7/4.5mm; US 8/5.0mm needles (60cm/24” circular needle) for working in the round

Gauge

• 19.5 sts / 30 rows = 10cm (4”) in stockinette stitch, using US 8/5.0mm needles, after blocking
• 23.5 sts / 27 rows = 10cm (4”) in fair isle pattern, using US 8/5.0mm needles, after blocking
