Christmas Mice
This pattern is for the mice, their removable Santa, Elf and Reindeer costumes, the sleigh & reins, 2 sizes of Christmas gift (& piece of cheese if you’d like to make a gift that opens) & 2 sizes of Christmas tree!
The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Patons Smoothie DK yarn for the majority of my project (this is quite a thick DK yarn so it is equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands) and my finished mouse measures approximately 10cm tall. The finished sleigh measures roughly 26cm long and 13cm wide. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both your mice, the sleigh & the clothing / accessories to ensure that they will fit.
For the mouse you will need the following colours:
- Main mouse colour - I used pale grey (approx. 23.5m per mouse).
- Nose / ears / feet / tail- I used pale pink (approx. 13m per mouse).
For sleigh you will need the following colours:
- Red (approx. 200m).
- Yellow (approx. 56m).
For the Christmas outfits you will need the following colours:
- Red (approx. 34m).
- White (approx. 15m).
- Black (approx. 1.5m).
- Light Green (approx. 23m).
- Light Brown (approx. 8m).
- Beige (approx. 15m).
For the Christmas tree you will need the following colours:
- Dark Green (approx. 107m for the smaller sized tree or 148m for the larger tree).
- Yellow (approx. 1.3m).
The gifts can be made in any colours of your choice. You will need:
- For each large size gift (approx. 13m).
- For each small size gift (approx. 6.5m).
Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- 3 pairs of 6mm black safety eyes.
- Some toy stuffing.
- Some finer black yarn or thread for adding the details to the mouse’s face and yellow thread for adding ribbons to the gifts.
- 4 medium buttons for fastening the Santa and elf outfits (and a needle and thread with which to attach them).
- Some small metal craft bells (mine were 8mm). I used 57 on the smaller sized tree or 81 on the larger tree, plus 3 on the elf costume. Alternatively you could use beads or sequins to decorate your tree.
- ‘7 count’ plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches) & I used just over half a sheet. A higher count (that’s the number of holes per inch) will mean the plastic is more bendy so stick to 7 count if possible. Feel free to use multiple layers together if necessary.
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you.
