Christmas Misery, previously known as “The Griswold Sweater” is a pull over sweater inspired by Ellen Griswold’s sweater in, “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation”

This sweater is knit in panels and seamed together, great for intermediate knitters and masters alike, this sweater is a tiny piece of Christmas no matter what time of year.

Christmas Misery comes in 8 sizes, from 36” to 64” bust. Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) 5 (6, 7, 8) will be around 36”( 40”, 44”, 48”) 52”( 56”, 60”, 64”) This pattern is form fitting and true to measurements. For more ease, go up a size. If your size isn’t available email me and we can get something worked up.

Along with the patterns is a YouTube series dedicated to making this sweater. Step by step directions aid you with visuals and methods. (This is still a work in progress)

While this sweater was tested in Big Twist and Knit Picks Swish, any Worsted Weight yarn should work. While the colors are faithful to the original sweater, any colors will do. We will need 1024 (1280, 1280, 1536) 1536 (1792, 1792, 2048) yards of black yarn or your chosen main color. About 250 yards of white yarn for all sizes, and no more that 50 yards for both green and red.

Needle size is U.S. size 8 or 5mm. Straights or circular for the body panels, whichever you choose. However for the collar, you will need circulars at about 16”.
