Christmas tree skirt / base cover pattern with chart and row by row written instructions.

A touch of extra splendour for the holidays. Because at Christmas you can never have enough glitter.

Having never liked the artificial Christmas trees last year I still gave in and finally bought one. And to be honest I did find a really nice one that doesn’t scream fake and with all the decorations (and I do use a loooot of decorations… ) on it it’s hard to even tell it’s not real.
Except for the base that is. It’s massive and ugly. To make matters worse the tree also has a rather long and thin trunk that just looks weird and “empty”. So I decided that by this December I’d make a pretty little skirt for it. I used red, white and green yarns because apart from their “Christmassyness” they are also the colours of my home country’s flag so as an added bonus they remind me of home. And I used glitter yarns because… Do I really have to explain that one?

The pattern is designed with my specific tree in mind, however it is easy to change the size to fit a different one. (See end of document.)

Needles: 4 mm, 100 cm circulars (or size to get gauge)

Gauge: 22 sts/25 rs in 10cm

Yarn: James Brett Twinkle Fashion DK, in red, white and green, approx. 50 g of each

Required skills/techniques: stranded knitting

Other materials: large cardboard tube, to fit around the tree base; few meters of white scrap yarn, preferably cotton

Size: 28cmx46cm (customizable)
