There had to be a Christmas stocking this year too. This year’s version is a small stocking that is knitted from the toe up, where you set aside stitches for the heel on a thread in a contrasting color and knit the heel afterwards - a forethought heel. The stocking ends with an icord with a loop which is either placed in the back of the stocking or in the middle of one of the sides.

I have chosen to make the pattern with a slightly variable gauge because this is a project that is very suitable for leftover yarn. The prototypes are knitted in thin merino together with a strand of mohair, or in a DK wool yarn. You can vary whether the entire stocking is knitted in one color, or if you knit it with a contrasting color on the toe, heel and icord.

I have made 3 charts showing 3 different motifs that can be embroidered on afterwards. I have embroidered the motifs on the light stockings in the photos. The red stockings have no motif and are only knitted in one color throughout.

About 20 g of thin merino together with 10 g of mohair or other lace yarn with guiding meterage/yardage 50 g= 210-250 m/ 230-270 yards,
