I wanted a unique Christmas bag that could hold a gift card for my teen and adult kids, nieces, and nephews. The Christmas Tree Gift Bag is approximately 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) tall and designed to specifically hold a standard size (3.375” w x 2.125” h / 8.6 cm x 5.4 cm) gift card (or a small gift).

The Christmas Tree Gift Bag is knitted in the round with acrylic worsted yarn on US Size 7 / 4.5 mm double-pointed needles. The main color (I used greens and an acrylic worsted white combined with long eyelash yarn) requires approximately 100 yards/92 m.

Remnant amounts of brown yarn are needed for the tree’s trunk. Washers give the tree’s trunk its shape and a weighted base.

A picot bind-off using US Size 1 / 2.25 mm double-pointed needles provides the lovely finished edge that’s easy to open and close. Remnant amounts of yellow (or red if knitting a white tree) are required to complete this topper.

Tissue paper (and your gift) fills out the tree’s shape. You decorate it with beads, charms, gems, yarn, or ribbon to make it unique. Add a foam star attached to a pipe cleaner or stick, or a tasty star lollipop to complete the Christmas Tree Gift Bag.
