Cast on 78 st total/39 st dark color+39 st light color, using 2 color modified alternating long-tail method for double knitting. (I like to cast on so the first stitch of Row 1 is the darker/main color.)

How to slip and knit stitches: Slip last two stitches onto working needle making sure the yarn is moved forward after the k st. At the beg of the next row, knit the first stitch as usual and then purl the next st. Be sure to move both yarns to front of work before purling and cross the back yarn over the front yarn to create a linked selvedge edge. Then purl the stitch. Continue with the pattern.

Bind off in smaller needle so bind off edge is same width as cast on edge.
