Christmas Tree Mittens
Get into the festive spirit with these super-fun mittens that can be made for your little ones or you! The trees look great with or without the trimmings: stars buttons, garland, and beads are optional and can easily be changed to suit your holiday style.
This design originally appeared in Crochet Now Magazine in UK terminology. Now it is available here, on Ravelry in US terminology.
This pattern has some un-usual construction techniques, so there are 10 clear instructional photos within this pattern to illustrate how the shaping is achieved.
Sizing
Mittens are sized for Child (women’s S, women’s M/L) sizes. Women’s sizes are the same in circumference, but different in length. Child size fits average 6-8 year old hands. To make a preschool sized mitten (ages 3-5), go down one hook size and follow child directions. Mittens measure about 6.5 (8, 8.5)” from top edge of cuff to top of tree (not including cuff) and about 6.75 (8.5,8.5)” in circumference around hand.
Toddler size measures about 5.75” from top edge of cuff to top of tree (not including cuff) and
about 6.25” in circumference around hand.
Note about yarn:
The two yarns used in the samples are very similar in weight even though one is listed as a dk weight and the other is listed as a worsted weight. These yarns are like a heavier dk weight or a lighter worsted weight. You will need about 160yds (145m) for the child size, 200yds (183m) for the women’s S and 210yds (192m) for women’s M/L in the MC. The cuff requires about 25 yds (23m) for child size, and 30 yds (28m) for the Women’s sizes. You will only need a few yards of the CC2 for the garland.
