This pattern is an introduction to combining double knitting and brioche. Each row is completed in two separate passes. Only one color is worked in each pass and each row starts with color A. So if your strands of working yarn are on opposite ends of the needle, you know color B needs to be worked to “catch up” with color A.

Do not use straight needles for this project. Although there are only 36 stitches to work, you need to be able to work from both sides of your needle. Thus, you need to use a circular needle but the length of the cord can be short. Double pointed needles would work as well but they would need to be long enough to comfortably hold 36 stitches without fear of them falling off the ends.

Your colors should be highly contrasting. At least one should be a solid but the second color can be speckled or variegated as long as there is no overlap in colors between A and B. I love using a neutral color and then an eye catching color for the second because together they really pop. For this project, however, I used two solids that had high contrast.
