I’m excited to share my new knitting pattern Chroma Wave Poncho. This poncho is a simple design but the applied i-cord edging interlaced on the shoulders transforms this into a unique piece.

Chroma Wave Poncho is a fingering weight version of my Wave Poncho worked in Knit Picks Chroma yarn. This pattern brings the best out of Chroma. You can purchase pattern and yarn directly from Knit Picks Website. The original Wave Poncho is worked in DK weight yarn and can be found on Ravelry here. The Ravelry DK version will include the Chroma Fingering version for a price of US-$5.99.

This can be a project for an advanced beginner. I included a step by step guide and photo tutorial to explain the i-cord edging.

Finished Size: XS (S, M, L); Length: 15 (17, 17, 19) in; Top width: 15.5 (17, 18.5, 20) in; Bottom width: 22.5 (26, 29.5, 33) in.

Yarn: Knit Picks Chroma, Fingering weight, 70% Superwash Wool, 30% Nylon, 397 yards / 100 gr, Colorway: Dear Diary (MC) (2 skeins for sizes XS and S; 3 skeins for sizes M & L); Preciosa Tonal, Fingering Weight, 100% Merino, 437 yards / 100 gr, Colorway: Panther (CC1); Pokeberry (CC2); Chroma Dear Diary white (CC3)

Needles: Two 32 in (80 cm) US 6 (4 mm) circular needles, spare circular needle or long stitch holders for moving provisional stitches, 3 dpns size US 4 (3.5 mm) for i-cord border.

Notions: Approximately 30 stitch markers, tapestry needle, crochet hook for crochet provisional cast on, scrap yarn.

Gauge: 20 stitches and 23 rounds = 4 in (10 cm) in wave pattern stitch on larger needles.

Notes:

  • The poncho is worked flat from the top down in 2 pieces. You will create 2 identical pieces then join them together using applied i-cord edging.
  • Pattern includes written directions, schematics and stitch guide for I-Cord Border.
  • The pattern can be modified by replacing all M1R & M1L with yo to create a lacier look.

The pattern has been test knitted and professionally tech edited.
