A ribbed hat becomes something much more colourful and romantic with a special stitch played out of normal order of things, like a chromatic note in a diatonic scale.

Hat is knit bottom up in the round.

Sizes :
Choose a size approx. 10cm (4 in) less than your actual head size for a snug fit. Be sure to measure from the top of your crown to the base of your ear to check required length and work additional rows if required.

Finished sizes:
Age approx. 4-Adult S: 46.5cm/18 ¼ in circumference and 26.5cm/10 ½ in long
Adult M: 53.5m/21 in circumference and 28cm/11 in long
Adult L: 53.5 cm/21 ¾ in and 29.5cm/11 ½ in long

Gauge & needles:
18 stitches and 25 rounds over 10cm/4 in over stockinette/ the main pattern stitch. 5mm/US 8 needles or correct needles to obtain gauge, one size smaller for the ribbing if desired.
