These mittens work an increased gusset to the side of the thumb stitches following the curve of the thumb on your hand. Using a yarn over to increase then knitting the yarn over through the back of the loop finishes the tidy increase as it grows the palm. This pattern employs the “afterthought” thumb technique using scrap yarn to hold the stitches on the thumb.
