When I first saw the edge on this doily by Herbert Niebling, I knew I wanted to knit it as a shawl design. It is stunning. Having test knitted Golden Autumn and Gloriosa for Elena Gotlib, I knew I could pair the edge with a simple body to create an elegant crescent shaped shawl which would showcase the edge. (Thank you Elena for forging a path for me to follow!). So here is my adaptation of the Chrysanthemum border from Herbert Niebling’s Tapetes de Punto Nr. 1.

The shawl is one size, although you can make it larger by using fingering yarn and doing 5 repeats instead of 4; or smaller by using lace yarn and doing 4 repeats. I like 4 repeats with a lace to light fingering weight yarn. You can see the size of 5 repeats and fingering in the project by Anuradhamukherjee.

Although beading is optional, I think it does add to the design. Either way, it will be beautiful. You can follow the charted beading for light beading of the shawl, or choose your own placement.

I hope you enjoy this design. It is beautiful. Please feel free to reach out to me here on Ravelry if you have any questions.
