Chubby Sheep Blanket 2 ways
This pattern is part of a series of patterns I created to promote Canadian wool from local farms. Worsted-weight yarn will create quite a heavy-duty accessary for blustery days. It will be perfect to sit by the fireside with the blanket on your lap or shoulder or as the outer layer for your winter stroll with your baby, all cozied up under the blanket. This pattern is mainly chart-based knitting with basic written instructions.
YARN
Worsted weight
Samples Used Topsy Farms Worsted weight 113g/200m per skein
Alternate yarn Briggs and Little Heritage 113g/196m per skein
Non-superwash wool will produce a felted look over time.
Porch blanket
Dark Brown_Gray (MC) 440g
Red (CC1) w 2 rows of barn 75g
Natural/Cream (CC2) 260g
Light Brown-Gray/Oatmeal (CC3) 220g
Black/Charcoal (for optional single sheep) 3 g
Mini/Stroller
Dark Brown_Gray (MC) 240g
Red (CC1) w 2 rows of barn 35g
Natural/Cream (CC2) 160g
Light Brown-Gray/Oatmeal (CC3) 60g
Black/Charcoal (for optional single sheep) 3 g
Note on choosing colors: I chose a neutral tone on tone to make the entire blanket variation of natural colors with the pop of red for the traditional barn color. However, you can choose 1 MC and 1 CC to make all sheep the same color. For example, Darker brown/gray with natural/off-white. If you choose to do just white sheep, adding just one black sheep is always fun if you feel up to incorporating the INTARSIA technique. We all need that troublesome one black sheep in our lives, which can be a conversation starter.
