The finished pumpkin chicken, when worked in double knit, will measure approximately 5.5”/14cm high and 5.5”/14cm beak to tail. This will of course vary with weights of yarn and hook/tension. For a larger chicken work in aran or chunky. I used the below yarns but you could use anything of a matching weight from your own stash.

Pumpkin (large)
50g of Stylecraft Special Double Knit in Spice.

Pumpkin (small)
20g of Stylecraft Special Double Knit in Spice.

Pumpkin Stalks and Tendrils
20g of Stylecraft Special Double Knit in Walnut

Beak and Comb
10g of Stylecraft Special Double Knit in Sunshine and Lipstick.

Ears of corn
10g of Stylecraft Special Double Knit in Saffron

Oak leaves
2g per leaf of Stylecraft Special Double Knit in Saffron and Walnut.

Feet 3g of Stylecraft Special Double Knit in Saffron

Other items 4mm, 3mm, 2.5mm and 2mm hooks, 10mm safety eyes, darning needle, long upholstery needle (very useful but not essential), stuffing, stitch markers, dressmakers pins with large heads and scissors.

Abbreviations
ch = chain sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet dc = double crochet

BLO = back loop only
Anything in () is an end of row stitch count
** anything between two stars is to be repeated

This pattern is relatively easy to follow but does require basic crochet knowledge of single and double crochet and the ability to work a magic ring. Everything is easily learnt from Youtube if you are not 100% sure. It is written in US terms but easily converted to UK terms.
