CHUNKY CABLE HEADBAND - BEGINNER’S KNIT
’A warm cable headband made from chunky wool for chilly days’

If you are not new to knitting, but are new to cables, then this may be a good beginner’s pattern to try. The main pattern has a simple 10 row repeat with a garter stitch border and a stocking stitch background to the central cable (with purl stitches to the front). There is a grid illustration of the cable pattern plus written instructions and photo-illustrations.

MATERIALS
1 100g ball of Istex Alafosslopi Wool (pictured in Off-white) or other chunky wool ::
A pair of 6.5mm knitting needles
A 5mm or 6mm knitting needle to use as a cable needle
A tapestry needle

MEASUREMENTS
21 inches in length, 3.5 inches wide

TECHNIQUES
Castiing on, Casting off, Joining two ends of fabric to form a loop (illustrated technique), Knit, Purl and Cable stitches

DIFFICULTY
Easy - Medium

:: If a lighter-weight yarn is used e.g. an aran yarn, then the cable headband will be narrower (this could be remedied by adding one stitch to the garter stitch borders either side of the cable).
