38” long or 60” long or get another ball of yarn and go for 72”, (190-230 yds, 290-370 yds, or 450-500 yds) The gray scarf pictured is my 6’4” friend and the scarf is actually 54”.
Choose the scarf length you prefer and get all the yarn you’ll need at the beginning. A different dye lot can really be obvious.
Use any Super Chunky yarn - the universal number is 6
If there isn’t a number symbol on the label, go by six wraps per inch (WPI).

This scarf can be made with 10” straight needles or you can use a 24-30” circular needle. Size 9 mm or US 13 or whatever size you need for gauge: 9 st = 4”

I like cables and sometimes I like projects that are super fast. This scarf is a favorite among the men in my family and it is fast enough I can produce a new one for each of them every year. I’ve included a tip on how to make cables more fun than ever!

If you’ve never done cables, or you’re feeling a bit rusty, there are photographs and instructions on how to do them.
Use a large cable tool.

The design is completely reversible - it actually looks the same from either side. Consider knitting 5 or 6 of these scarves in a variety of colors and sewing them together to create a blanket!

In a pinch you can hold two strands of worsted weight yarn together. Though the cables aren’t as sharp when made with doubled strands, the scarf will still be nice and the look will be unique.
