The bulky yarn and check design of this hat create a warm hat, full of texture and color. The check pattern is easy to create and requires no stranding (just one active yarn per round).

The twisted stitches of the hat’s stretchy ribbing prevent slippage, while maintaining a crisp appearance.

You’ll need a #11 circular needle and DPNs of the same size for the crown. Or, if you work using a Magic Loop technique, you’ll only need the circular needles.

Suggestions are given on how to alter the hat to be a looser, longer slouchy style hat.

NOTE: This is an easy pattern to work, but can be a bit challenging to tear out or “tink” the stitches if a mistake is made because it utilizes the K1Below st.
When tearing back or tinking work, the purl sts from the rnd below will need to be reconstructed.
