Chunky Half-Double Crochet Cowl
Gauge isn’t important in this project since the length and width are customizable to suit your needs. The length of yarn is also dependent on the length and width you choose. The hot pink Chunky Half-Double Crochet Cowl pictured used about 90% of one skein of Bernat Softee Chunky yarn using a size 9 hook.
Please note: I am not a professional pattern writer or expert crocheter! I taught myself to crochet using YouTube videos around Thanksgiving of 2013. I just want to share this pattern because of some positive comments and “how’d you do it” feedback. I welcome your constructive, respectful criticism! <3
Chain to desired width of cowl (I used 80)
Round 1: Slip stitch into first chain to connect, half double crochet to end and slip stitch
Rounds 2-6+: Half double crochet, chain one, half double crochet, chain one, repeat to end and slip stitch* repeat for desired width (I used 5 rows)
Round 7: Half double crochet the final row except for the next to last stitch=single crochet, last stitch single crochet, then slip stitch, bind off, and weave in ends
Only took about an hour from start to finish. I added a medium button (look for a size that snugly fits through the chain spaces in the pattern) so the cowl could be pulled snug when out in the cold. This cowl coordinates with my Chunky Half-Double Crochet Hat
This tutorial uses a different yarn, hook, length, and pattern, but it’s what inspired my own cowl! http://youtu.be/7yB83IQYGeI
