Chunky Hat on Straight Needles (#2): Royal Diamond
(UPDATE 21/01/2022: I’ve just added some instructions to the bottom of this pattern for those of you lovely people who would prefer to knit this in the round! I hope you enjoy! <3)
This hat is quick and easy to make. All you need to know is how to knit and purl in order to make it! It’s knitted in one piece, on flat needles, starting from the rim of the hat and working up to the top. The diamond pattern is more commonly known as King Charles Brocade, but as I personally find that a bit of a mouthful, I’ve decided to call it ‘Royal Diamonds’. You can call it what you like!
The royal diamond stitch is repeated over 12 rows. I find it so satisfying to knit, because each time you do a row you can see the diamonds emerging. I think it’s such a beautiful, elegant, unique stitch that I’ve rarely seen used in other patterns. So let’s give it some love!
It’s also knitted with a band that folds over. I personally love this style because I find it makes the hat fit better and gives an extra layer of warmth. If you wanted to knit a shorter band, however, that would also work perfectly fine.
I hope you enjoy knitting this pattern! <3
